Hirer’s Getting Started Guide

1. Create Your Account

Create your Local Hire Marketplace account and complete your profile.

Providing accurate information helps equipment owners feel confident when accepting your booking request.

2. Find the Equipment You Need

Browse available equipment in your local area and compare listings based on:

• Equipment type and specifications
• Hire price
• Location
• Availability
• Owner reviews and ratings
• Security deposit requirements
• Pickup and return requirements
• Any additional booking conditions

Always read the full equipment listing before requesting a booking.

3. Check You Can Safely Use the Equipment

Before booking, make sure you have the knowledge, experience and, where required, qualifications or licences to safely operate the equipment.

Never hire equipment you are not confident or authorised to use.

4. Request Your Booking

Select your required hire dates and submit your booking request.

Make sure the hire period allows enough time to collect, use and return the equipment within the agreed timeframe.

The Owner may contact you through Local Hire Marketplace if they need additional information before accepting your booking.

5. Review the Booking Requirements

Before confirming your hire, check:

• Pickup location and time
• Return location and time
• Identification requirements
• Security deposit
• Transport requirements
• Required licences or experience
• Included accessories
• Consumable arrangements
• Owner-specific Terms & Conditions

Ask the Owner any questions before collecting the equipment.

6. Collect and Inspect the Equipment

When collecting the equipment, inspect it with the Owner before leaving.

Check that:

• The equipment matches the listing
• Its condition is recorded
• Photograph the equipment’s condition from several angles
• Existing damage is identified
• Required accessories are included
• Safety guards and features are fitted
• Operating instructions have been provided
• You understand how to safely operate the equipment

Where appropriate, take photos of the equipment at handover.

7. Use the Equipment Safely

During the hire period:

• Follow the manufacturer’s instructions
• Use the equipment only for its intended purpose
• Wear appropriate PPE
• Do not overload, modify or misuse the equipment
• Keep the equipment secure
• Do not allow unauthorised people to use it
• Contact the Owner if you experience a fault or safety issue

Stop using equipment immediately if you believe it is unsafe.

8. Look After the Equipment

Treat hired equipment as if it were your own.

Keep it clean, protected from unnecessary damage and securely stored when it is not being used.

If equipment is damaged, lost or stolen, contact the Owner through Local Hire Marketplace as soon as possible.

9. Return the Equipment on Time

Return the equipment:

• At the agreed time and location
• In a reasonably clean condition
• With all accessories and attachments
• With any agreed consumables replaced
• In the same general condition in which it was received, allowing for fair wear and tear

Tell the Owner about any problems or damage that occurred during the hire.

10. Leave a Review

After the hire is complete, leave an honest review about your experience.

Reviews help build trust within the Local Hire Marketplace community and help other Hirers choose reliable equipment and Owners.

If something goes wrong, first communicate with the Owner through Local Hire Marketplace and try to resolve the issue together.

If the matter cannot be resolved, refer to the relevant Complaints & Disputes policy or Help Centre information available on Local Hire Marketplace.
