Safe Use and Equipment Care

1. Follow the Operating Instructions

Always follow:

• The manufacturer's instructions
• Safety labels and warning signs
• Instructions provided by the owner
• Applicable laws and safety requirements
• The equipment's operating limits

Never remove safety guards, modify the equipment or use it for a purpose for which it was not designed.

2. Wear the Correct PPE

Use appropriate personal protective equipment for the equipment and task.

This may include:

• Safety glasses or face protection
• Hearing protection
• Gloves
• Safety footwear
• Respiratory protection
• Protective clothing
• A suitable helmet

Check the listing to see whether PPE is included. Unless clearly stated, you should arrange your own properly fitted PPE.

3. Prepare a Safe Work Area

Before starting work:

• Keep children, pets and bystanders away
• Remove trip hazards and unnecessary objects
• Check for underground or overhead services
• Ensure there is suitable lighting and ventilation
• Keep electrical equipment away from water
• Use stable and level ground where required
• Check weather conditions for outdoor tasks

Never operate equipment while affected by alcohol, illegal drugs, fatigue or medication that could impair your ability.

4. Use the Equipment Responsibly

During use:

• Stay within the equipment's rated capacity
• Do not overload or force the equipment
• Use the correct accessories and attachments
• Keep hands, clothing and hair away from moving parts
• Turn equipment off before making adjustments
• Never leave operating equipment unattended
• Do not allow unauthorised people to use it

Only the approved hirer or another properly qualified and authorised person should operate the equipment.

5. Transport and Store Equipment Securely

You are responsible for protecting the equipment while it is in your possession.

Make sure the equipment is:

• Properly secured during transport
• Stored in a dry and secure location
• Protected from weather, theft and unauthorised use
• Locked away when left unattended
• Kept with all supplied parts and accessories

Do not leave equipment visible in an unattended vehicle unless it is appropriately secured.

6. Cleaning, Fuel and Consumables

Keep the equipment reasonably clean throughout the hire.

Before returning it:

• Remove dirt, dust and debris
• Empty or clean collection containers where appropriate
• Refill fuel if required by the listing
• Recharge batteries where requested
• Replace agreed consumables
• Return every accessory and attachment

Only use the correct fuel, oil, batteries, blades or consumables specified by the manufacturer or owner.

7. If the Equipment Develops a Fault

Stop using the equipment immediately if it:

• Makes unusual sounds
• Overheats or produces smoke
• Leaks fuel, oil or other fluids
• Has damaged guards, cords or controls
• Becomes unstable or difficult to operate
• Displays a warning or fault message
• No longer operates as expected

Turn it off safely, disconnect the power where appropriate and contact the owner through Local Hire Marketplace messaging platform.

Do not attempt repairs or arrange third-party repairs without the owner's approval.

8. Damage, Loss or Theft

If the equipment is damaged, lost or stolen:

1. Stop using the equipment if it may be unsafe.
2. Protect the equipment and surrounding area from further damage.
3. Contact the owner immediately through Local Hire Marketplace messaging platform.
4. Take photos and keep relevant evidence.
5. Report theft to the police and obtain an event or report number.
6. Contact Local Hire Marketplace Support if further assistance is required.

Do not conceal damage or continue using unsafe equipment.

9. In an Emergency

If someone is injured or there is an immediate danger:

1. Stop the equipment if it is safe to do so.
2. Move away from the hazard.
3. Call 000 for emergency assistance.
4. Follow the directions of emergency services.
5. Notify the owner and Local Hire Marketplace as soon as it is safe.

10. Quick Safety Checklist

Before operating hired equipment, confirm that:
