General

Local Hire Marketplace is a peer-to-peer (P2P) platform that connects people who own equipment with people who need to hire it. Instead of buying expensive equipment, you can hire it from trusted people in your local area.
Owners list their equipment with photos, pricing, and pickup details. Hirers browse listings, request a hire for selected dates, and pay securely through the Platform. Once an Owner approves the request, it becomes a confirmed hire booking.
You can hire a wide range of tools and equipment for personal domestic use, including DIY tools, camping gear, party supplies, trailers, and more — depending on what Owners have listed in your area.
You must be at least 18 years old and create an Owner account. You also need to be legally entitled to hire out the equipment you list and meet any insurance or safety requirements that apply.

Booking & Payments

Create a Hirer account, find a listing, choose your hire dates, and send a Hire Request. Payment is authorised when you request; if the Owner approves, the booking is confirmed and the charge is completed.
You pay when you make a Hire Request. Funds are placed on temporary hold until the Owner approves. If the request is rejected, expires, or is cancelled before approval, the hold is released.
Yes. Payments are processed by our third-party payment provider. Local Hire Marketplace does not store your full card details on our servers.
Card details are required to authorise the Hire Fee (and any applicable fees or security deposit) when you request a booking, and to complete payment once the Owner approves.
Some listings may require a security deposit. If required, it will be shown clearly on the listing and at checkout before you confirm your Hire Request.
Security deposits are released according to the listing terms and our Platform processes after the hire ends, provided there are no unresolved damage or dispute claims.

Hirers

Identity or account verification may be required depending on Platform settings and listing requirements. Follow any prompts in your account to complete verification when asked.
Yes. Submit a new Hire Request through the Platform for the additional dates. The Owner can accept or decline the extension request.
Cancellation options depend on timing and the listing terms. Cancellations made in line with Platform rules may be eligible for a refund of the Hire Fee; transaction fees may be retained.
Collection arrangements are agreed between you and the Owner. Anyone collecting equipment should be authorised by you and meet any age or competency requirements for that hire.
If an Owner fails to fulfil a confirmed booking and you have made reasonable efforts to resolve it, you may be eligible for a refund of the Hire Fee and applicable transaction fees under our refund rules.

Owners

Creating a listing is generally free. Fees may apply when a hire is completed — for example, transaction fees shown at checkout. Premium Listing options may have additional charges.
Yes. You set your Hire Fee and any additional hire terms in your Equipment Listing. Pricing should be accurate and kept up to date.
After a booking starts, funds are distributed by our payment processor (less any amounts deducted under the Terms). Payouts may take a few business days to appear in your account.
Yes, if you choose to. Include delivery options, fees, and any conditions clearly in your listing so Hirers know what to expect.
Yes. You can approve or reject Hire Requests. Requests not approved within the Platform timeframe are automatically cancelled.

Equipment & Safety

Owners must ensure equipment is safe, fit for purpose, and compliant with applicable laws before hire. Hirers should also inspect equipment at pickup and report any issues immediately.
Document the damage with timestamped photos and notify the other party via the Platform as soon as possible. Disputes about damage should follow the process set out in our Terms.
Stop using the equipment and notify the Owner through the Platform. Liability for repair or replacement depends on the cause, listing terms, and whether the damage exceeds fair wear and tear.
Owners of electrical equipment must comply with applicable test-and-tag and safety requirements in their state or territory before listing and throughout the hire period.
Fair wear and tear is normal deterioration from ordinary use. Damage from misuse, negligence, or improper handling is not fair wear and tear. See our Fair Wear & Tear Policy for more detail.

Insurance & Protection

Owners are responsible for having appropriate insurance for equipment they hire out. Local Hire Marketplace may ask for evidence of cover, but Owners remain responsible for arranging suitable insurance.

Disputes

We encourage Owners and Hirers to resolve issues directly and in good faith through Platform messaging first. If that fails, follow the dispute steps in our Terms.
We may step in for Platform-related issues such as refunds under our rules, account misuse, or policy breaches. We are not responsible for mediating every dispute between Owners and Hirers.

Account

Owner and Hirer accounts are different. If you want to both list equipment and hire, you may need separate accounts as set out in our Terms.
Sign in and go to your account or profile settings to update your details. Keep your information accurate and up to date.
Yes. You can close your account by notifying us through your account or the email listed in our Terms. Closing your account ends access to Platform services from that date.

Support

Email us at support@localhiremarketplace.com.au or use the Contact Us button on this page. For hire-specific issues, message the other party through the Platform first.
We aim to respond to support emails within a reasonable timeframe on business days. Response times may vary depending on volume and the nature of your enquiry.

Premium Listings

A Premium Listing is an optional upgrade that can give your equipment greater visibility on the Platform. Details and pricing are shown when you choose the Premium option.
No. Premium Listings may improve visibility, but bookings are not guaranteed and still depend on demand, pricing, location, and listing quality.

Community

After a hire, Owners and Hirers can leave reviews about their experience. Reviews should be honest and based on your own hire. We may remove reviews that breach our guidelines.
Yes. Contact support with details of the issue. We take misuse of the Platform seriously and may suspend or terminate accounts that breach our Terms or Community Guidelines.
